The Face of Fu Manchu (1965) British Pressbook

One of my guilty pleasures growing up. I was completely terrified by first Boris Karloff's Fu Manchu (The Mask of Fu Manchu), then by Christopher Lee's portrayal. Of course today it is mostly stereotypical claptrap, but a fun nonsense, nonetheless. The pulp fiction of Sax Rohmer is still unique and worth a read , and Nigel Green's Sir Denis Nayland Smith is perfect. This is the first movie in the series of five and is the best.

The Gamma People (1956) Pressbook

I've not seen this one yet, but it's about mind control and a totalitarian government; and a mind-wiping plot element similar to Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but this one uses gamma rays. Interesting.

This is the 1938 re-release pressbook for White Zombie. Still a powerful film, with one of Bela Lugosi's best roles.

Invisible Agent (1942) Pressbook Ad Mat Insert

Here's the ad mat insert to the Invisible Agent pressbook. These are the newspaper ads that would be used by the movie theater for promotion. The ads shown here would simply be cut out and sent to the newspaper, along with the theater's location and show times. Now, of course, you just open Fandango or another app on your phone. But seeing these ads in the newspaper was a lot more visually exciting, if not as convenient.

A Night of Fright Double Bill Pressbook: Did You Get Your Erotiphile Giveaway?

So, what's better than a double bill viewing of The Horrible Dr. Hitchcock and The Awful Dr. Orlof? Why, getting the Erotiphile novelty giveaway card, of course! Now that's a giveaway to hold on to. Quite cheeky I might add, too.

Abbott and Costello Meet the Killer, Boris Karloff (1949) Pressbook

I was just watching Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man last night. I still chuckled at the silly gags. That made me start thinking I'd like to catch Abbott and Costello Meet the Killer, Boris Karloff, so I pulled out the pressbook to prepare. There is nothing more so 1940s than seeing Boris Karloff or Bela Lugosi wearing a turban and tux. The article titled Karloff Still Haunted by Monster Role is worth a gander.

The Lost World of Sinbad and War of the Zombies Double Bill Pressbook

What more could you ask for in a double bill? Not only do you get some salty action with The Lost World of Sinbad, you get to witness the undead crossing swords with the living in Rome Against Rome (aka War of the Zombies)! Of course, it would be more exciting to see Sinbad fighting zombies, but you can't have everything.

The Night the World Exploded (1957) Pressbook

The lower half of a double bill with The Giant Claw, The Night the World Exploded, once again, has a scientist, his Girl Friday, and the wonders of technology. So for the price of one movie ticket you got a lecture on antimatter and one on geothermal activity. Of course, these movies wouldn't be science fiction without some sort of monster. For The Giant Claw there's an astro-bird and for The Night the World Exploded you get little black rocks that grow in size until they blow up or, as the tagline reads, "Terror from above! Horror from below!"

The Magic Sword (1962) Pressbook

Arguably Burt I. Gordon's best movie, The Magic Sword delivered an effective fantasy that certainly left an impression on me when I first saw it in the 1960s. Worth a crusade or two, the lobby standee, and that awesome giveaway flashlight sword, are two treasures I'd love to cast a spell on for my collection.
