Horror's Not Dead digs deep to find The Burrowers:

Worry not, though. Petty’s film is no rehash of TREMORS. The title and trailer, perhaps wisely, broadcast this misconception but the reality is far more delightful. The title is a mere reference to where the threat originates from, it tells nothing of their behavior. Even if it did, no title could adequately advertise how pulse poundingly badass the titular species is.

Cinema Suicide goes all fanboy angst with a woeful tale about meeting Tom Savini on a bad day:

The lines were huge! Lou Ferigno was there, Ron Palillo who played Horshack on Welcome Back Kotter, the guy who played Will Robinson on Lost In Space, Boomer from Battlestar Galactica. All of these people had crowds. All of them, that is, except for Tom Savini, who I discovered sitting mere feet from me.

Evil on Two Legs has something to cluck about with Poultrygeist and Gutterballs. So don't be chicken, it's finger-licking good:

Poultrygeist is by far the best troma film i've ever seen. sure, as in all troma films, much of the humor centers around hurling turds at the camera... but these are smart turds. mixed in with the 5th grade level bathroom humor is some biting satire on corporate america and relationships and, most notably, some damn catchy music.

Love Train for the Tenebrous Empire shows her love for cats and catnip with Night of a Thousand Cats. "NoaTC" is a movie about a millionaire playboy named Hugo who lives in an old monastery and picks up chicks in his helicopter in order to collect their severed heads, feeding their remains to his room full of cats. That's it--for sixty-three minutes. But... that's really all I need.

Attentiondeficitdisorderly Too Flat sends along its Blog of Blood entries for Clive Barker's Books of Blood, in which I read and reviewed one of the short stories from Clive Barker's Books of Blood collection every day for a month. Plenty for readers to sink their teeth into. So to speak.

Yours truly decides to take the easy way out and skips SAW IV. What would Roger Ebert do? Would he ignore a film just because he was squeamish? Sure, why not? I decided to review Hiruko the Goblin instead. Spidery goblins ripping off heads is so much easier to watch than that creepy Billy the puppet wheeling around on his squeaky tricycle anyway.

The Drunken Severed Head must have had a slow day; here's his interview with robotics engineer Laura Wong. She isn't even an evil robotics engineer. The robot that I have designed that I'm most proud of was actually three of the same robot-- I created a "swarm". Swarm robotics is relatively a new field of robotics which allows multiple robots to cooperate and communicate within a group.

Evil on Two Legs continues their look into the fashion sense of the Friday the 13th series by focusing on the cast of characters presented in the aptly named Friday the 13th Part 2 (please see our first articlefor a look at the original film). Featuring one of the best dressed final girls of the series as well as Jason in the iconic "bag-head" costume, this should be a lot of fun.

It's only academic for the fantastic Theofantastique to interview Dr. Adam Possamai, Senior Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Western Sydney. He has researched and written extensively on new religions, as well as the nexus of the fantastic in popular culture and its connection with spirituality to form what he has labeled “hyper-real spiritualities.”

Billy Loves Stu tells us how Roddy Piper and his tight jeans saved the world. From the moment we see him stroll into frame, his jeans fitting snugly, his blond streaked mullet flowing in the breeze; we instantly fall in love with part time actor/full time pro wrestler, Roddy Piper as the hero named Nada in 1988's They Live.

Theofantastique looks at two small screen treasures from the '70s: Many readers will be familiar with House of Dark Shadows (1970), and The Night Stalker (1972) from this time period, but perhaps far fewer will be familiar with what I regard as two gems from the period: The Norliss Tapes and Satan’s Triangle.

Billy Loves Stu sends a letter to Camp Stonewater regarding The Burning: You might have heard that we had some problems up here ... it's true, seems that one of the former groundskeepers went a little nuts-o after some kids burnt him up a couple of years ago, and now the killjoy is trying to ruin it for everyone else. What a jerk.

The Vault of Horror celebrates a quarter-century of Freddy Krueger: That's right, Mr. Fred Krueger has been haunting our dreams for one score and five years now, ever since Wes Craven first birthed him onto the cinematic landscape in 1984, one of the most brilliant creations since the heyday of Universal Studios.

Dinner With Max Jenke continues the Freddy frenzy: I can't say that the Elm Street films were always favorites of mine but Freddy's cult hero status was part of what made '80s horror fun. There's a whole generation of now-twentysomething horror fans who bought their first issues of FANGORIA because Freddy was on the cover.

Zombos' Closet of Horror scares up some ghosts in The Gravedancers: While the smartly dressed paranormal investigators in The Gravedancers aren't exactly the plumbers by day, fearless supernatural inquirers by night kind, they still manage to do a few things right. But when you go dancing on other people's graves, well, you might as well stick a "Kick Me" sign on your back and be done with it.

Will Reflections on Film and TV Let the Right One In? You be the judge. At first blush, the snow seems beautiful, but on closer reckoning you see it for what it is: a blanket of cold despair, covering everything, raining down. Endlessly down.

Billy Loves Stu parties with the all singing, all dancing, all slashing The Fan; a strange film that blends the typical slasher flick with a backstage fable about an older glamor gal attempting to reclaim her place at the top of the heap by agreeing to be in a musical. Imagine All About Eve meets He Knows Your Alone, or something like that.

Theofantastique reveals its love affair with the bloodsucking Brady bunch in Lost Boys. One of my favorite vampire films is a “cult” classic, Joel Schumacher’s 1987 film The Lost Boys. I was therefore pleased to find a paper presented by Jeremy Tirrell at the national convention of the Popular Culture Association that deals with the film titled “The Bloodsucking Brady Bunch: Reforming the Family Unit in the The Lost Boys.

The Drunken Severed Head draws a complete picture around the art of Universal Monster Army's Linda Miller. She's also a natural wit, and a librarian by trade. Like me, she is a member of the Universal Monster Army. At the UMA she impresses everyone with her watercolor renderings of classic horror scenes.

Mad Mad Mad Mad Movies tells us not to judge Savage Weekend by it's boom mike or other technical faults or "egregious continuity flubs, shots framed with some foreign object (possibly the cameraman's thumb) obscuring the top of the lens, and..." because it does "add some cool performances by David "Dr. Hill in Re-Animator" Gale (with rockin' 70s 'stache!) and William "This is my brother Darryl, this is my other brother Darryl" Sanderson playing (what else?) a country bumpkin with a difference, and I think it's an undiscovered gem. Check it out."

Howdy Pardners! Tie up your horse and mosy on over to the chuckwagon. We've got steamin' coffee and sizzlin' beans, and a month's worth of favorite posts from the notorious LOTT D horror ranch lined up and waitin' for you...yeehaw!

Love Train for the Tenebrous Empire explores the "absolutely stunning" Czech film" Valerie and Her Week of Wonders. Every frame of this movie could be a surrealist painting, and by the time its hour-and-fifteen minute run-time is up, it's as if one is awakening from a beautiful dream whose importance hovers just out of reach of concrete understanding.

And Now the Screaming Starts had trouble choosing a favorite, but here is its most visited post of the month, Sweet Little Thirteen. Perhaps the strangest phenomenon spawned by the Friday the 13th remilkshake is, unlike the treatment of the original, this flick has entered the pop culture sphere with a resounding shrug from the non-horror world.

I Love Horror disapproves of the recent remake of My Bloody Valentine 3D. This gets double billing due to its uncharacteristic approach. I’m fairly certain no one will agree with my assessment, but hey, different strokes for different folks. It’s also short, so, uh, deal with it.

LOTT D Roundtable: Halloween Memories

At this wonderful time of year for horror fans, our nostalgia for costumed escapades long past, fiends seldom seen, and old scares lightened by candy corn chuckles by the warm glow of the jack o'lantern, renews our spirits at a time of year when we open our doors--of our own free will--to the terrors by night. And laugh.

Join in the memories as the League of Tana Tea Drinkers reminisces on those terrors that come dressed in polyester, gauze, and rubber, brazenly bellowing with all their devilish might, in syllables to chill the night, "Trick or Treat!"
